Chandigarh, Oct 23 (IANS) A total of 8.44 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been procured in Haryana, the state government said on Thursday.
A total of 49.94 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of paddy arrived in the procurement centers in the state.
During the Kharif procurement season in the state, Rs 9,029.39 crore has been transferred directly to the bank accounts of farmers.
“The government has ensured timely payment of minimum support price (MSP) to farmers,” a spokesperson of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs said.
He said that the government is ensuring smooth and efficient paddy procurement in all the designated grain markets, keeping the interests of farmers as its top priority.
He said that HAFED, warehousing and food and supply agencies are actively procuring paddy in various districts. Instructions have been issued to the concerned departments to ensure that farmers do not face any inconvenience in selling their crops.
Paddy is being procured from farmers registered on ‘Meri Fasal Mera Byora’ portal. According to the spokesperson, till now procurement from 252,693 registered farmers has been completed under this system.
The procurement is going on under the MSP policy of the Central Government, and the payment for the purchased crop is transferred directly to the bank accounts of the farmers.
The spokesperson has appealed to the farmers to bring their paddy to the mandis only after meeting the quality standards set by the Central Government, especially the moisture limit of 17 percent.
The state procurement agencies have made adequate arrangements for smooth procurement and lifting of paddy.
The purchased paddy is being paid at the MSP of Rs 2,389 per quintal fixed by the Government of India without any deduction.
According to the spokesperson, instructions have been given to maintain proper facilities like electricity, clean drinking water and toilets in the mandis.
He appealed to the farmers to dry their paddy thoroughly and bring it to the markets so that they can get fair and timely payment for their produce. Apart from this, commission agents clean the paddy at their level.
