Chandigarh, Nov 3 (IANS) The Punjab State Scheduled Caste Commission on Monday took suo motu cognizance of the casteist remarks made by State Congress Committee President and Lok Sabha MP Amarinder Singh Raja Waring against former Union Home Minister Late Buta Singh at an election rally for Tarn Taran Assembly by-election.
Giving information in this regard, State Scheduled Caste Commission Chairman Jasveer Singh Garhi said that this matter has come to his notice through social media in which the President of Punjab unit of Congress and Lok Sabha member from Ludhiana is making color and caste based comments towards the country’s late Home Minister and Dalit leader Buta Singh.
He said the Commission, taking suo motu cognizance of the matter, has asked Captain Amarinder Singh Raja Waring to appear in person on November 6 and the Returning Officer, Tarn Taran, to appear in person on November 4 and submit a report.
Meanwhile, BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh sharply criticized the Congress for showing blatant disrespect towards the lower section of the society.
Expressing strong objection to the way Punjab PCC President Raja Waring insulted former Union Home Minister Buta Singh during an election campaign in Tarn Taran, Chugh demanded that AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge tender an unconditional apology to the country.
Chugh said that Congress has always exploited the Dalits and weaker sections for political gains without working for their upliftment. Chugh said, “Waring’s remarks are not just an insult to an individual, but an insult to the entire country. Congress should apologize for this shameful act.”
Congress leader Buta Singh was the chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes from 2007 to 2010. He wrote a collection of articles on Punjabi literature and Sikh history and the book ‘Punjabi Speaking State: A Critical Analysis’.
