Punjab Police Bust Cross-Border Smuggling Module; 5 kg of heroin seized

On September 20 (IANS) to make Chandigarh, Punjab a safe and drug-free state (IANS), according to the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted a cross-border narcotics smuggling model, a cross-border narcotics smuggotics module operated by foreign handlers Hepal Singh. The arrested accused has been identified as Pavdeep Singh, a resident of Beharwal in Amritsar. DGP Yadav said that during interrogation, the arrested accused Pavandip has revealed that he is living in his foreign-based handler Harpal Singh, natives of Kohla village in Amritsar and currently living in America.

The latter is directly in contact with Pakistan -based smugglers and with the help of drones has arranged several consignments of drugs and weapons from across the border, he said.

He said that further investigation has revealed that Harpal Singh, who moved to the US about two years ago, had initially set a clear record, but may later join the drug smuggling business after settling abroad.

Sharing the operation details, the DGP said that CI Amritsar had received specific intelligence about recovering consignment of drugs from the Indo-Pakistan border area falling near Dhano Kalan village in Amritsar.

While acting fast, the police team intercepted suspected Pavdeep Singh from near Beharwal village in Amritsar when he was going to consign some party and recovered the narcotics from his possession, he said.

On September 19, a case has been registered under Section 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act in Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.

Earlier, in a major success against the cross-border narco-terrar network, the Amritsar Commission police busted two more intoxicating cartel with the arrest of six drug trafficers and recovered 9.066 kg of heroin from their possession, the Director General of Punjab said on Thursday.

Those arrested have been identified as honey, 18, Paramdeep Singh, alias Paras, 18, Harvinder Singh, alias Hind, 19, Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, 25, Jasbir Kaur, 40 and Kulwinder Kaur, 54.

The Amritsar Commission police, a day after the Drug smuggling syndicate operated by Jagpreet Singh, aka Jagga at Moga, was identified as Yasin Mohammed, with the arrest of its prominent operative, and recovered 7.1 kg of heroin from his possession.

DGP Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the native of Jandiala Guru had direct connections with smugglers based in foreign gangsters, Harpreet, aka Happy Jat, Pakistan and running this network using social media platforms.

The DGP stated that two first information reports (FIRS) have been registered at the police station in Chhaharta, Amritsar, and further investigation is going on to identify the broad network and border-limit linkage in both cases.
