Punjab ministers inspected dysilting works in Sutlej River

Chandigarh, September 19 (IANS) Punjab Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goel, Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian, on Thursday inspected the ongoing disillum works in Sasalluj River in Sasalli Colony in Ludhiana district.

The pair directed the immediate deployment of additional resources, especially the floating excavators, Poklen and JCB, to expedite the removal of silt deposits and to speed up the river in their original course.

In particular, the state government has already deployed advanced floating excavators to return the river flow to its natural route.

The ministers further directed to raise all available resources and machinery to ensure rapid restoration of river flow and prevent further silt accumulation.

The ministers said that all cabinet ministers, MLAs and officials are working for the relief and rehabilitation of the flood affected people. He confirmed that the government is fully committed to providing timely assistance for its rehabilitation.

He assured that compensation to all affected families would be distributed within 45 days, saying that special ‘Girdhari’ is already being done on the post of war to assess the loss in the affected areas.

Later, Revenue Minister Mundian visited village Sahibana and reduced Balbir Singh from his salary to Rs 50,000 to repair his flood-affected roof. He also announced that the government would release additional funds to assist Balbir Singh.

Water Resources Minister Goyal visited Mandla Chhana village to review the strengthening of Dhusi Bundh, where large -scale relief operations are going on with the support of the drainage department. He was accompanied by Balbir Singh Sechewal, a member of Parliament and Jasbir Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner.

The Water Resources Minister said that to secure this important Bund with Sutlej, the dedicated team of Jalandhar administration, drainage department and army units are working in the clock under the supervision of Rajya Sabha MP CKwal. He said that there is no shortage of resources as the government has ensured uninterrupted supply of materials and manpower.

Appreciating the untiring efforts of administration, army, SDRF and volunteers, he said that after the water level, one more strong work would be done once.
