Punjab Kings (PBKS) equaled Mumbai Indians (MI)’s record of five consecutive wins over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Punjab achieved the feat after their 7-wicket win over CSK at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday. Punjab’s five-match winning streak started in the 2021 season of IPL and is still going on. Earlier, MI had registered the most consecutive wins between the 2018 and 2019 seasons of the T20 tournament.

Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have also registered four consecutive wins against the Chennai-based franchise in the IPL.

PBKS also became the second franchise to achieve the most wins by a visiting team against Chennai in the IPL at Chepauk. Mumbai Indians (MI) are at the top position with 5 wins at their home stadium in Chennai. Meanwhile, with three wins, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is the third team to have the most wins by any foreign team against CSK in Chennai.

Recalling the match, the vibrant yellow wave in the stands at Chepauk subsided when PBKS easily chased down 163 with two overs to spare.

Stand-in captain Sam Curran’s decision to put CSK into bat proved to be ideal as the dew factor became a hindrance for the CSK bowlers in the second half of the match.

Ruturaj Gaikwad led from the front and scored 62 off 48 balls and MS Dhoni put the finishing touches in the last moments to take CSK to 162/7.

In reply, PBKS batsmen didn’t have to break a sweat in chasing 163 runs. Jonny Bairstow and Riley Rossouw put the momentum completely in their favor with a partnership of 64 runs.

Curran and Shashank Singh put the finishing touches to give PBKS a 7-wicket win.
