Anandpur Sahib (Punjab), Nov 18 (IANS) To ensure smooth and safe arrangements for the upcoming 350th martyrdom birth anniversary of the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav visited here on Tuesday and reviewed the security, convenience and traffic management arrangements.
“I briefed all supervisory officers reiterating the need to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, commitment, empathy and dedication,” an official statement quoted the DGP as saying.
He was also accompanied by Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla and Special Director General of Police (Intelligence) Praveen Sinha.
The grand commemorative event will be held at Anandpur Sahib from November 23 to 25 and is expected to attract lakhs of devotees from all over the world.
DGP Yadav said massive deployment of more than 8,000 police personnel has been done under the supervision of senior rank officers to ensure safety, orderly movement and comfort of the visiting devotees.
He highlighted that the security system is heavily dependent on state-of-the-art technology and a high-tech control room is being set up, integrated with automatic number plate recognition and facial recognition cameras at all entry and exit points of the city, complemented by surveillance drones.
The DGP said the entire area has been systematically divided into 25 sectors, each with its own sub-control room and a helpdesk, to ensure efficient management.
For the convenience of devotees, comprehensive traffic and logistics plans have been implemented, including round-the-clock shuttle services to all venues and tent cities, besides smart barricading systems being strategically deployed to smooth crowd flow and strengthen ground regulation.
To manage traffic and minimize inconvenience to devotees, the District Police, in partnership with IIT Ropar, has activated real-time digital mapping of parking areas based on live occupancy and capacity to guide people and support efficient traffic management.
