Chandigarh, Oct 10 (IANS) Condemning the attempt to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday said “this is a result of the BJP’s anti-Scheduled Caste (SC) speech.”
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of filing of Rajya Sabha nomination by industrialist Rajinder Gupta, the Chief Minister said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is continuously trying to harm the interests of the weaker and deprived sections of the people through its propaganda and “this incident is the result of that”.
“This is a serious threat to the judicial system of the country and even to the communal harmony and brotherhood of the country.”
Mann said that while the Chief Justice of India has reached this position through hard work and dedication, such a cowardly act is “truly condemnable”.
The Chief Minister also said that the state government is keeping a close watch on the law and order situation in view of the upcoming festive season and no one will be allowed to disturb it.
He said that being a border state, many forces opposed to the peace, progress and prosperity of the state try to disturb the law and order here.
He said that the nefarious designs of such forces will not be allowed to succeed and they will be given a befitting reply.
Mann said, the state government has made elaborate security arrangements in view of the upcoming festival season and no one will be allowed to take law into their hands.
Expressing concern over adulteration of food products ahead of the festive season, the Chief Minister said he has directed the health department to launch an intensive campaign to stop it.
Taking a dig at former minister Navjot Singh Sidhu becoming active in politics again, the Chief Minister said that anyone is free to join or leave politics whenever he wants.
“It is heartening that Sidhu has once again missed Punjab from his other commitments”, he said, adding that nothing new and good can be expected from the former cricketer as he is expected to repeat his earlier agenda.
Mann wished the cricketer-turned-politician all the best for his new political journey.
