Chandigarh, Nov 26 (IANS) Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Wednesday condemned AAP minister Aman Arora’s remarks regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur and demanded a public apology.
Terming the comments as baseless, he said that not only Minister Arora but the entire Aam Aadmi Party should publicly apologize for this false statement. “Aman Arora’s claim that the Prime Minister did not attend the program despite being invited is completely false,” the BJP chief said in a statement.
He said, “This does not mean that the Prime Minister lacks respect for Guru Sahib. In fact, Modi Ji paid tribute to the unparalleled martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji during the major event held in Kurukshetra and the Government of India also released a commemorative coin dedicated to this holy occasion.”
He said a national level program was also organized at the Red Fort, where people were told about the Guru’s extraordinary sacrifice to protect religious freedom and humanity. Jakhar said that many programs were organized by the Government of India not only across the country but also at the international level.
“Therefore, Aman Arora’s comments about the Prime Minister are baseless, baseless and purely made for political gain.” He demanded that Arora apologize to the Prime Minister.
Jakhar further said that the state unit of BJP also organized a Kirtan Darbar at Anandpur Sahib dedicated to the 350th martyrdom anniversary and the party leadership collectively paid obeisance and prayed at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib.
He said that SGPC had also invited AAP leaders to its programme, but not a single minister or leader of Aam Aadmi Party attended. Jakhar asked, “If you really have faith in Guru Sahiban then why did you not participate in this important program of SGPC?”
Jakhar also said that AAP’s double standards were exposed earlier also on August 26, when Punjab was suffering from floods, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was in Tamil Nadu to inspect their breakfast scheme. He said that later the same leaders invited the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for this program, but he did not attend.
“What will the Chief Minister and Aman Arora say about this?” Jakhar asked. The state president said that all the Chief Ministers of other states know that there are political motives behind such events and AAP is using religion for its political interests.
He said, “That is why none of them thought it appropriate to get involved, because no responsible leader wants to get involved in politics in the name of religion.”
