Punjab BJP chief convicts AAP for Congress, flood crisis

Chandigarh, September 19 (IANS) Punjab President of Bharatiya Janata Party Sunil Jakhar said on Friday that for the benefit of national level, the Congress has pledged the state’s interests to the AAM AADMI party.

He said that when it became clear that the floods in Punjab were the result of the failures of the state government, even during his visit, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi did not say a word against the government.

Jakhar said in a statement, “Even the state leadership of the Congress is not fulfilling its responsibility as a protest.”

He said that “there is evidence that both sides are the same and their partnership is now in the open”.

He said that despite the claims of the state government spending Rs 230 crore on flood-ritual measures, the manner of washing the embankments in the flood proves that the government did not work honestly.

The BJP leader said, “This is the failure of the Punjab government which is big on this devastation, yet the Congress is completely silent on this issue.”

He said that the assembly session by the government is nothing from time to time.

“If they really intend to work, they already have Rs 12,000 crore available from SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund) and people are demanding immediate assistance.”

Jakhar said that the Congress will also have to pay the price of cheating Punjab, while the AAP government, who was responsible for drowning, has to face the court of the people.

A day earlier, BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh launched a bang attack on the government, directly responsible for turning a natural disaster to a “man-made disaster” to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal.

Chugh said: “In Punjab, AAP surrendered before the government’s disability, delay, and vested interests, converted a seasonal challenge into a human tragedy. It was not just a flood; it is a man -made disaster.”
