Chandigarh, Oct 12 (IANS) Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Malvinder Singh Kang and MLA Inderbir Singh Nijjar on Sunday reacted to Congress leader P. Chidambaram’s statement regarding the 1984 Sikh massacre.
AAP leaders asked why Congress keeps hurting the sentiments of Sikhs time and again and why Rahul Gandhi still keeps Jagdish Tytler, one of the culprits of the Sikh massacre, with him.
He said the Congress was “still honoring the main accused Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler and Kamal Nath by giving them prominent positions and recognition”.
In a statement, AAP leaders said that the atrocities committed by the Congress can never be forgotten.
Kang asked, “This is the same Congress that openly honored those involved in the mass killings of Sikhs in Delhi – Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler and Kamal Nath – by giving them ministerial and chief ministerial posts. Rahul Gandhi should tell the country how long will he continue to reward and protect such people?”
He warned Chidambaram that merely accepting that what happened was wrong does not erase the crimes and sins of the Congress.
He said that the wounds suffered by Sikhs in Punjab and Delhi are still fresh in the hearts of Sikhs across the world.
Kang said that Sikhs can never forget the atrocities of Congress and the genocide committed against them and Congress can never be forgiven for these crimes.
AAP MLA Nijjar, reacting to Chidambaram’s remarks about Operation Bluestar, said that trying to share the blame with the Army and intelligence agencies instead of putting the entire responsibility on then-former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was a clear attempt to save the Congress leadership.
He clarified that whatever happens in the country happens with the consent of the head of the state.
Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister during Operation Bluestar and she was completely responsible for the entire incident.
He said that Sikhs of Punjab and the world can never forgive Indira Gandhi and Congress for the attack on Sri Harmandir Sahib.
AAP leader Nijjar also questioned Congress’s continued defense of the culprits of the 1984 Delhi riots and said Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler and Kamal Nath had played a direct role in instigating violence and killing Sikhs.
“Yet, Congress rewarded him with ministries and chief ministerial posts, which clearly shows that the party’s intentions were never honest,” he said.
