Divya Suresh – 2025 | Kannada actress and former Bigg Boss Kannada contestant Divya Suresh has been booked in a hit and run case in Byatarayanapura area of Bengaluru. During interrogation, she confessed to driving and claimed that she was in a hurry to catch a flight to Hyderabad. His car hit a two-wheeler carrying three people that was taking an unwell person to the hospital. She suddenly hit them and drove away without stopping or checking on the injured. outcome: A case has been registered under sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 125 (A) (endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Justice Code along with other relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. BMW Crash – 2025 | Navjot Singh, a senior finance ministry official, was killed and his wife Sandeep Kaur was seriously injured in a BMW accident in Delhi in September 2025. The accident involved Gaganpreet Makkar, who was driving the BMW at the time. She was traveling with her husband, two children and a maid when their luxury car hit Singh’s motorcycle. The case attracted widespread attention as the victims were taken to the hospital, which was 17 km from the accident site. Singh’s wife told the police that she was repeatedly pleading to be taken to the nearest hospital as her husband was unconscious. outcome: He has been booked under sections 281, 125B, 105 and 238 of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS) on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, obstructing evidence, rash driving and endangering life. The court has granted bail to Makkar and the case is still under investigation. (Image PTI)
Pune Porsche Crash – 2024 | Although no celebrities were involved in the accident, the accused teenager comes from a rich and influential background. On May 19, 2024, a 17-year-old boy, under the influence of alcohol, allegedly drove a high-end Porsche at high speed in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area. The car collided with a motorcycle, killing two young software professionals, Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta. Police said the teen had consumed alcohol before driving and was allegedly driving at a speed of around 200 km/hr. outcome: Initially, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) granted bail to the teen and asked him to write a 300-word essay on road safety. However, after public criticism, he was sent to the observation home. It was also revealed that the 50-year-old father of the accused was detained for tampering with the blood-alcohol sample to reduce the evidence of intoxication at the time of the accident. The teen’s 77-year-old grandfather is also accused of kidnapping the driver who was in the Porsche at the time and forcing him to take the blame for the accident. ISKCON Bridge Hit-and-Run Case – 2023 | Nine people, including a constable, were killed, and 13 others were injured when a speeding Jaguar car plowed into a crowd gathered at the site of an accident on the ISKCON bridge on the morning of 20 July. Police later identified 21-year-old Tathya Patel as the driver of the luxury car. outcome: Tathya Patel was charged under sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act. Dalip Tahil Drunk Driving Case – 2018 | Veteran Bollywood actor Dalip Tahil, best known for his role in Baazigar, was involved in a 2018 hit-and-run case involving drunk driving when his car allegedly collided with an auto-rickshaw in Mumbai, injuring the driver and a passenger. Police said Tahil was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. outcome: In 2023, a Mumbai court convicted Dalip Tahil, sentencing him to two months in jail and imposing a fine of ₹500. He was also ordered to pay compensation of ₹5,000 to the injured woman. (image x)
