A 52-year-old man shot and wounded a jewelery shop owner during an argument outside a hotel in Pune on Saturday night before shooting himself in a tricycle, police said.

A financial dispute was the apparent trigger for the events in Aundh.

A police officer identified the deceased as Anil Dhamale and the injured as Aakash Jadhav (39).

“Damale had been working at a jewelery shop owned by Jadhav for the past few years. On Saturday evening, Damal asked Jadhav for a cup of coffee and took him to a nearby hotel,” the police officer said.

When they reached near the hotel, Damale, who was armed with a pistol, shot Jadhav and then fled the spot, he added.

“Damale then boarded an autorickshaw. He shot himself with the same pistol near Aundh Chowk. Jadhav has been admitted to a nearby hospital,” the official added.

A case has been registered at Chatushungi police station and further investigation is underway.
