According to initial trends, BJP is leading on 38 seats in Pune, while Ajit Pawar’s NCP is leading on 5 seats.
Voting was held on Thursday January 15 for all 29 municipal corporations including Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Nashik and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
About PMC Elections 2026
A total of 1,165 candidates were in the fray for 165 seats in 41 wards of the city civic body in the PMC elections. The final voting in Pune Municipal Corporation was recorded at 52.42%.
Pune is also being watched closely as two rival factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and his uncle, Rajya Sabha MP Sharad Pawar, have formed an alliance for the municipal elections.
Exit polls of Pune Municipal Corporation elections are indicating the victory of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It is likely to win around 70 of the 165 seats, while Ajit Pawar’s NCP may get 55 seats. Sharad Pawar’s NCP is expected to win 10 seats, while Shiv Sena (Shinde), which is contesting independently, may win 12 seats.
What happened in 2017?
The last Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) election was held on February 21, 2017, where 55.45% eligible voters participated, choosing from among 1,090 candidates.
BJP won clearly on 97 out of 162 seats. NCP finished runner-up with 39 seats, while Shiv Sena got 10, Congress nine, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) two and AIMIM one, while the remaining four seats went to Independents and others.
After the election, BJP’s Mukta Tilak was named mayor, and Navnath Kamble became the deputy mayor.
