A Paris labor court has ordered French football giants Paris Saint-Germain to pay Kylian Mbappe €60 million (£50.7 million) in unpaid wages and bonuses, drawing a line under a bitter financial dispute.
The decision on Tuesday ends months of legal wrangling after the France captain launched proceedings against his former club.
Mbappe claimed earnings for April, May and June 2024 had been withheld just ahead of his high-profile free transfer to Real Madrid.
The court determined that PSG had indeed failed to pay him three months’ salary, a moral bonus and a signing bonus stipulated in his employment contract.
These outstanding amounts were previously agreed upon by the French Professional Football League (LFP) in September and October 2024.
The judges said PSG had not submitted any written agreement indicating that Mbappé had waived his rights.
“We are satisfied with the decision. That’s what you could expect when wages are not paid,” Mbappe’s lawyer Frederic Casereau told reporters.
While the court rejected PSG’s argument that Mbappé should forfeit his wages in full, it also rejected several additional claims by the player, including allegations of concealed carry, moral harassment and breach of the employer’s duty of safety.
The court did not classify Mbappé’s fixed-term contract as permanent, which limited the possible compensation for the dismissal.
PSG had argued that Mbappe acted dishonestly by hiding his non-renewal intentions for almost a year, preventing the club from securing a transfer fee equal to the €180 million paid for him in 2017.
Mbappé’s representatives focused the dispute not on transfer policy, but on French labor law and unpaid remuneration.
Mbappe spent seven years at PSG after initially joining the club on loan from Monaco, winning six league titles with the French giants.
He scored 256 goals in 308 appearances in all competitions for PSG before moving to Madrid last year.
