Protesters deny causing criminal damage after Greenpeace protest at Rishi Sunak’s home

Last year, four protesters pleaded not guilty to criminal damage after Greenpeace campaigners hung anti-oil and gas banners at Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s home.

On August 3, Amy Rugg-Easey, 33, Alexandra Wilson, 32, and Michael Grant, 64, were arrested in No. Mr Sunak, of Kirby Sigston, near Northallerton, appeared at York Magistrates Court following a demonstration at his home in Kirby Sigston, near Northallerton.

The fourth protester, Mathieu Soete, 38, attended Thursday’s hearing via video link.

The four defendants deny charges of damaging Mr Sunak and Akshata Murty’s roof slates worth less than £5,000.

District Judge Adrian Lower scheduled the two-day trial to begin on July 23.
