Judy Boone, 72, owner of Judy Boone Realty in Norfolk, was taken to a local hospital Tuesday night after police responded to a report of a shooting at a home in the 1800 block of East Ocean View Avenue.
Police arrived just before midnight and found Boone suffering from a gunshot wound that was not life-threatening.
Boone was shot three times in her home and is still recovering in the hospital, her family said in a statement.

“Judy was shot three times in her home on New Year’s Eve. She is recovering in the hospital. In addition to the pain she was feeling, she was angry that something like this could have happened! At this time we believe this was the result of a botched home invasion,” the statement read.
“Our family appreciates the outpouring of thoughts and prayers from the community. We ask that everyone respect her privacy as she continues to recover.”
A spokesperson for Sentara Health confirmed that Boone is being treated at a local hospital and is in stable condition. Police have not publicly confirmed how many times Boone was shot.
Days after the shooting, her ocean-view home still suffered visible damage from the attack.
The sliding glass door and side window leading to Boone’s bedroom were boarded up, and neighbors said the bullets appeared to have been fired from outside the home.
Boone’s friend Jonathan Lehner told us 13 News Now He didn’t understand why anyone would follow the popular real estate agent.
He said: “It’s heartbreaking, you know, she really helped the Seaview area of Norfolk tremendously. It happens to good people all the time and, you know, there was no reason for her to be shot, that’s for sure.”
A neighbor told local media that Boone was shot and killed by someone outside her home, although police have not confirmed that account.
Norfolk U.S. Attorney Lamin Fathi said the incident did not appear to pose a broader public safety risk.
“I can tell you there is no threat to anyone else nearby,” Fathi Tell WAVY-TV on Friday.
“This does not appear to be a random crime, but beyond that, in the interests of the integrity of the investigation and out of respect for the rights of anyone who is ultimately charged, I can’t tell you any more.”
Shortly before midnight on Dec. 31, police scanning traffic found a dispatcher who said Boone herself had called to report she had been shot.
Investigators have not yet said whether the shooting was targeted or accidental, nor have they identified a suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
