Prohibitory orders have been imposed by the administration along the India-Bangladesh border in Cachar district of Assam to prevent illegal movement, an official release said on Wednesday, December 17.

It said preventive restrictions have been imposed on sensitive border areas due to apprehension of possible movement of extremist elements and unauthorized cross-border activities to disturb peace and stability.

District Magistrate Mridul Yadav, exercising powers under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS), issued the order on Tuesday with an aim to prevent illegal movement of people, goods and activities.

The order said it has been observed that uncontrolled movement, especially during night, may give rise to illegal activities including unauthorized transportation of essential commodities and cattle, thereby posing serious challenges to law and order.

Movement of persons has been restricted from sunset to sunrise within a one kilometer belt on the district border.

Additionally, movement of movement along the Surma River and its high banks into Indian territory during night has been prohibited.

The order also maintains strict control over boating and fishing activities on the Surma River.

Fishing will be permitted only to local residents and for personal consumption, subject to prior authorization by the Circle Officer, Katigora and compliance with the terms of the lease.

Such permissions will be closely monitored, copies of which will be sent to the District Magistrate and the Commandant of the 170th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) at Dholchera, thereby ensuring coordination between civil and security agencies.

Transportation of essential commodities like sugar, rice, wheat, edible oil and salt has been prohibited during night within a five-kilometre belt inside the district border along the Bangladesh border.

The release said that any relaxation will be given only after proper verification by the supply authorities and specific objectives, time and place, strengthening transparency and accountability.

State and Central government employees who are on official duty in border areas have been exempted from these restrictions to ensure that essential administrative and security functions remain uninterrupted.
