“The Fight,” “The Sinner” and “Marty Supreme” once again received key nominations from the Producers Guild.
The Producers Guild of America on Friday named 10 nominees for the Daryl F. Zanuck Award, their top and most reliable award Oscar Best Picture leads the way, including awards-season staples like “Frankenstein,” “Hamnet” and “emotional value“.
“Bugonia” and “Train Dreams” are also among the nominees, as well as two more surprising choices: the Formula One racing movie “F1” and the horror film “Weapons.” It is worth noting that the four movies on the list, “F1,” “Weapons,” “One Piece,” and “The Sinner” were all released theatrically by Warner Bros.
However, “Avatar: Fire and Ash” and “Wicked: Forever Good,” two big-budget studio spectacles that might have been considered surefire production honors, are not included.
The nominees closely follow the five films selected by the Screen Actors Guild and Directors Guild earlier this week. The full list of 10 films is also a good predictor of the Best Picture batch when Oscar nominations are announced on January 22.
The Zanuck Award winner has won the Academy Award for Best Picture 17 times in the past 22 years, including last year’s “Anola.”
The association also nominated five animated features, including “KPop Demon Hunters,” “Zootopia 2,” “Elio,” “Bad Guys 2” and “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Infinity Castle.”
They also recognized TV shows and movies, with nominees in various categories including “Andorra,” “Pitt,” “South Park,” “Public Life,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and “Mr. Scorsese.”
The 37th Annual Producers Guild Awards will be held on February 28 at Los Angeles.
