Patna, November 1 (IANS) Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA government of Bihar and alleged that Rs 10,000 was being distributed during the elections to influence the voters.

Addressing a massive election rally in Begusarai’s Bachhwara assembly constituency, Gandhi said, “The ruling parties did not give anything before the elections, and now they are giving Rs 10,000. What does this mean? They need you now, so they are distributing money. If they give money then take it – but cast your vote very carefully. Don’t let them buy your vote.”

Priyanka Gandhi said that she is also making promises, if Congress does not fulfill them then people should remove it.

He said Bihar was the land from where Mahatma Gandhi started the freedom movement, and questioned why the state was not developed despite its historical heritage.

“This land has given a lot to the country. Still why has the ruling leadership not developed this state properly?” he asked.

Priyanka said the Constitution guarantees equality, liberty and the right to vote and alleged that the Modi government has weakened those rights.

According to him, the BJP led government is doing divisive politics on the basis of caste and religion and diverting people’s attention by raising unrelated issues.

He also alleged that 65 lakh votes were deleted during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), claiming that “if your vote is deleted, your rights are deleted”.

Gandhi said that top BJP leaders, including the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister, campaign in Bihar, but do not say anything on current issues like inflation, unemployment and migration.

“Jobs are not available, and families are breaking apart due to migration. From Kerala to Kashmir, I have seen people from Bihar working everywhere.”

He alleged that the BJP has imposed taxes on everything, privatized national assets and promoted contract-based employment.

On Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Gandhi said that he has ruled Bihar for 20 years.

“Now he says he will create 1.5 crore jobs. Why hasn’t he done this in the last 20 years? Do he think the public is stupid?” He said.

Priyanka alleged that the NDA made promises on inflation and unemployment, but handed over big companies to its industrialist friends and gave nothing to the common people.

Priyanka Gandhi targeted BJP over the slogan of double engine and accused the Modi government of taking central decisions from Delhi.

“Narendra Modi says he will run a double engine government. I want to tell you – he does not have a double engine. He has a single engine which runs from Delhi. You have no voice, even your chief minister has no voice,” she said.

Priyanka alleged that the situation created under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah has forced the people of Bihar to migrate for livelihood and said that only by changing the government this trend can be stopped.

He also called BJP leaders ‘vote thieves’.

He said, “First they tried to divide people on the basis of caste and religion. This plan worked for some time. Then they tried to divert people’s attention. But now the public has understood – the public has woken up. That’s why they are stealing votes.”

Hitting back at BJP’s continuous attacks on previous Congress governments, Priyanka Gandhi said that BJP talks selectively about the past.

He said, “Who built IIT, IIM, AIIMS? They were built by Jawaharlal Nehru. When we talk about the past, his arguments do not hold. We talk about the present, not about history.”

Defending Congress’s stand on caste census, he asked why Rahul Gandhi raises the issue of social justice.

According to him, full representation of backward class, extremely backward class, Dalit and Mahadalit communities has still not been achieved, hence caste census is necessary.

He said that when Rahul Gandhi raised this issue, the entire BJP opposed it – from Narendra Modi to lower level leaders.

Priyanka also claimed that BJP has changed its stand on caste census after the Lok Sabha results.

“The BJP did not get the desired results in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, and then they realized that the equations were changing. So they started talking about the caste census – but later they went to court and pushed it aside,” he said.
