Assam BJP’s ‘teddy boy’ taunt
As the controversy escalated, the Assam BJP unit took to Twitter to take a dig at Kharge. The party said in its post, ‘Hello Teddy Boy, writing long essays on X does not make you a semiconductor expert.’
The state unit continued its attack and said Kharge should take a “good look” at his “own backyard”.
“Instead of lecturing about Assam, perhaps take a look at your own Gireban – your district still tops the poverty charts in South India. So much for your ‘talent tank’, isn’t it?” This was added.

what was the dispute about
The war of words started when Kharge on Monday (October 27) claimed that the central government was pushing semiconductor enterprises for Karnataka to Gujarat and Assam.
According to News18, Kharge said in an interview to a news channel, “Why are semiconductor industries going to Assam and Gujarat, when they actually want to come to Bengaluru? All the investments meant for Karnataka are being deferred by the Centre.”
He accused the Center of politicizing industrial expansion, arguing that Karnataka’s engineering capabilities and tech ecosystem are logically suitable for such manufacturing units.
Sarma responded with strong remarks
Reacting to Kharge’s comments, Sarma hit back with harsh words, calling Kharge a “first class idiot” and saying the comments had lowered the aspirations of the educated youth of Assam.
According to news agency PTI, Sarma further said that his administration is investigating with legal actions for the “derogatory comments”, and also criticized the Congress leadership for remaining silent on the arrogant comment.

Kharge hit back at the allegations
Responding to the backlash, Kharge accused Sarma of “hiding his failures” and distorting his comments for political gain.
According to News 18, he further alleged, pointing to corruption concerns and unemployment in Assam under the BJP government, “Mr Sarma has only succeeded in increasing his wealth.”
Kharge reiterated, “My statement is clear – semiconductor companies were pressured to set up in Gujarat and Assam, even when they preferred Karnataka.”
He predicted a change of power in the state, saying that a Congress administration in 2026 would prioritize “skills, employment and rebuilding public confidence in governance”.
