Prince William shared insight into Princess Kate’s feelings regarding her absence from royal family duties.
The prince discussed his wife Kate during a surprise visit to St. Michael’s Church of England High School on Thursday.
The Princess of Wales is currently undergoing “preventive” chemotherapy and is unable to perform public duties.
At the school, Prince William told a member of staff: “I’m sorry Catherine can’t come here too. He must have liked it very much.”
The princess confirmed she had been diagnosed with a form of cancer in an emotional video filmed in Windsor last month.
William also took a break from his duties to spend time with his wife and family but has now returned to his role.
The prince visited Rowley Regis today after a student wrote to the royal last year inviting him to his school to see his work tackling mental health challenges.
The letter prompted the prince to organize a secret visit to the school in the West Midlands, led by William.
William apologized for not being able to attend World Mental Health Day the first time he was invited, and said he hoped he had made up for it.
The school visit was the first of three activities by the prince in the region today.
