Prince Andrew to give up all titles and honors after series of scandals
Prince Andrew is abandoning the use of his titles following further allegations in recent days.
In a statement released by Buckingham Palace, Prince Andrew said that after discussions with the monarch and her immediate and wider family, he decided that “the continued allegations about me distract from the work of Her Majesty and the royal family.
“As always, I have decided to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision to step away from public life five years ago.”
“With Her Majesty’s consent, we feel I must now take a step forward. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honor bestowed upon me. As I have stated previously, I vehemently deny the allegations made against me.”
Prince Andrew will still retain his dukedom, which can only be taken away by an Act of Parliament, but he will give up the use of his titles and honours.
He will also relinquish his knighthood as Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order and his Garter role as Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.
