President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed grief over a tragic incident of a stampede in Shergao in Goa, claiming six people.
President Murmu expressed his condolences and also prayed for quick recovery of the injured.
In a social media post on X, Draupadi Murmu wrote, “It was sad to know about an unfortunate incident of a stampede in Shiraga, Goa, who claimed many people’s lives. I expand my condolences to the members of the bereaved family and pray for quick recovery of the injured.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed condolences to the affected families and wished for a rapid recovery of the injured.
In a post, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) wrote, “Shergao, saddened by a stampede in Goa. Sent to those who lost their loved ones. The injured may soon recover. The local administration is assisting those who are being affected”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed condolences and wrote in a post, “Many others were hurt in a stampede during the death of many devotees and injuries of many others, Larai Devi Temple in Shirgaon, in Goa, is very sad.”
“I express my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families. Also, I hope to rapid recovery of all the injured,” the post further reads.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant visited Goa Medical College (GMC), where some injured persons are being treated in Shiragao stampede. The incident occurred during the annual Lerai Devi Jatra at Shirgaon Temple, resulting in 6 deaths and more than 50 injuries.
Talking about the incident, Pramod Sawant said, “Six people died in the stampede, and more than 50 people were injured. After receiving the information, I went to the spot. The injured are being treated in the hospital … Every year more than 50,000 people participate in Jatra. This is an unfortunate incident. (AI)
