President Murmu is expected to travel in modern spic railway vehicle for Sabarimala Yatra

Justin, 06/10/202506/10/2025

Thiruvananthapuram, 6 October (IANS) President Drupadi Murmu is likely to travel to the latest self-equipped inspection car (SPIC) of Indian Railways-recently during his upcoming visit to Sabarimala on the most advanced model-22 October included by Southern Railways-22 October during his upcoming visit to Sabarimala.

The President is expected to board the new commission SPIC to run a special inspection-yatra through some parts of the Southern Railway Network.

The rail journey will end at Chenganur railway station, from where it is going to move ahead of the road to the foothills of Sabarimala Tirtha.

It is yet to be confirmed whether President Murmu will take another way for the traditional forest trekking route or temple.

The yatra is part of the two -day visit to Kerala from 22 to 24 October, and will mark its first pilgrimage at the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple since assuming office in 2022.

The President’s visit to visit the day of the conclusion of Thulmasa Pujas, which began on 16 October.

Spic produced by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai represents a new generation of motorized inspection vehicles at Indian Railways.

Designed for high-level inspections, stainless-steel coaches are equipped with dual driving cabins, air-conditioning, GPS-based information systems, onboard Wi-Fi, external CCTV cameras and emergency and pantry features.

By eliminating the requirement of a separate locomotive, SPIC increases operational efficiency and frees the engines for regular passenger services.

Detailed security and logical arrangements are being made in coordination with Kerala Police, Travancore Devaswom Board and Railway Officers to make the President’s visit comfortable and ensure smooth movement of special train.

Kerala Devaswom Minister VN Vasavan had earlier confirmed the President’s plan to visit Sabarimala during the conclusion of the global Ayyappa Sangam, given that the proposed visit earlier was postponed due to national security concerns.

The visit of President Murmu in the state -of -the -art SPIC vehicle is expected to outline the modernization drive of Indian Railways, even adds a new chapter to his Kerala journey program.
