Presenting the sixth National Water Awards and Jal Sanchay-Janbhagidari Awards at a function in Delhi, President Murmu said that, along with water treatment and recycling, many industrial units have achieved the target of zero liquid discharge.
Such efforts are useful for water management and conservation, he said, adding that in our national song, the first word written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee is “Sujlam”, which means “rich with abundant water resources”.
He said, this fact shows the priority of water for our country.
The President stressed on prioritizing water conservation and sustainable management at the level of the Central and State Governments, district administrations, gram panchayats and municipal bodies.
He said that many educational institutions, civic groups and non-governmental organizations are also contributing in this direction.
President Murmu advised farmers and entrepreneurs to adopt innovative methods of maximum production while reducing water consumption.
He highlighted that rational citizens who contribute enthusiastically as individuals are also important stakeholders in the water-wealth value chain.
Effective water management is possible only with the participation of individual, family, society and government.
The President said that while using water, everyone should remember that we are using a very valuable asset.
He underlined that tribal communities greatly respect all natural resources, including water.
President Murmu emphasized that the most efficient use of water resources should be an integral part of the lifestyle of all our citizens.

Water can be harvested and conserved only through manpower.
The objective of the National Water Awards is to create awareness among people about the importance of water and motivate them to adopt best water use practices.
