President Drupadi Murmu attends Mauritius National Day as chief guest

President Murmu attended the Mauritius National Day celebration.

Port Louis:

President Durupadi Murmu attended the 56th National Day celebrations of Mauritius as chief guest on Tuesday, underscoring the long-lasting relationship between the two countries.

President Murmu is on a three-day state visit to Mauritius.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that Murmu’s attendance at the commemorations of the 56th anniversary of Mauritius’ independence and the 32nd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Mauritius marked an important moment in the special partnership between India and Mauritius.

“A momentous moment for the special partnership between India and Mauritius! President Drupadi Murmu @rashtrapatibhvn participated as chief guest at the celebrations of the 56th anniversary of Mauritius’ independence and the 32nd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Mauritius at the Champ de Mars,” Ministry of External Affairs Events Posted on X with some photos from the event.

Mauritius Day commemorates the East African country’s independence from Britain in 1968 and its transition to a republic in 1992.

People celebrate this day with colorful processions.

A contingent of the Indian Navy also participated in the celebrations.

Murmu waved to the Indian troops participating in the parade. As part of the celebrations, two Indian Navy ships – INS Tir and CGS Sarathi – also docked here.

Earlier, Murmu had also taken a short metro ride to Mahatma Gandhi Metro Station in Mauritius.

The post stated that the Mauritius Metro is a flagship project of Indian aid and has had a transformative impact on the lives of the Mauritian people.

In 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth jointly inaugurated the Mauritius Metro Express Line and Hospital via video.
