Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 21 (IANS) President Draupadi Murmu on Tuesday landed at the airport in the state capital for a four-day visit to Kerala, which will also include a pilgrimage to Sabarimala.
He was welcomed at the airport by Kerala Governor Rajendra V. Arlekar, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and other top officials.
From the airport, she headed to Raj Bhavan – the official residence of the Governor – to spend the rest of the day.
The President will visit Sabarimala on Wednesday.
She will leave for Nilakkal by Air Force helicopter from the airport and is expected to reach there by 10:20 am. From Nilakkal she will leave for Pamba by road.
After completing the rituals at the Pamba Ganpati temple, the President will climb the hill in a special Gorkha jeep, bypassing the regular convoy.
The climb will take place following the traditional Swami Ayyappan route, which will also be attended by the Governor and his wife.
The President is expected to reach Sannidhanam by afternoon for darshan and will later stay at the Devaswom Guest House.
After lunch she will return to Pamba at 3 pm.
Security arrangements for the journey have been tightened considerably.
After returning from Sabarimala, the Governor will host a dinner for the President at Raj Bhavan in the evening.
On October 23 (Thursday) at 10 am, the President will unveil the statue of former President KR Narayanan at Raj Bhavan.
In the afternoon she will participate in the centenary celebrations of Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi in Sivagiri. At about 3.30 pm the President will fly to Palai in a helicopter to inaugurate the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of St. Thomas College.
She will stay in Kumarakom that night. On October 24 (Friday), she will attend the centenary celebrations of St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam as the chief guest.
The President is scheduled to return to Delhi by 4 pm on the same day.
