President accepted VP Jagdeep Dhankar’s resignation: RS Curses informed House

Web Desk, 22/07/2025

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ghansham Tiwari, who was on the chair, announced on Tuesday that Jagdeep Dhanker’s resignation as Vice President of India has been accepted by India’s President Draupadi Murmu. Deputy Rajya Sabha President Harivansh Narayan Singh was seen presiding over the proceedings after the resignation of Dhankhar.

The chair said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has a notification, with the information, under the 67A of the Constitution, India’s Vice President Jagip Dhankhar has been apprised of the resignation of Jagip Dhankhar.
The upper house of Parliament was postponed till 2:00 pm today.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X, saying, “Jagdeep Dhikar has received many opportunities to serve our country in various abilities as the vice -president of India. He wishes for good health.”

Amid increasing speculation over the reasons behind Jagdeep Dhankar’s resignation, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi today said that relations between the Vice President and the Center do not seem before.

Labeling Dhankar’s resignation as “sudden and unfortunate”, Gogoi said that the vice -president presided over the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meetings on Monday. He expressed that relations between Dhankar and the Central Government could be a hit, given that even a Union Minister was not present in the BAC meeting, which was scheduled for the afternoon yesterday.

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel expressed doubts over the “health reasons” quoted by Jagdeep Dhankar for his resignation as the vice -president of India, saying it was a sign of “a adjacent political storm”.

He said that Dhankar’s resignation comes after two ministers, including Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nad, who failed to attend the afternoon meeting on Monday.

“Yesterday, I was also there, and he was also present in the meeting. He was fine and in good health … In the second meeting, Union Minister JP Nadda did not attend, and later, a resignation was not related, so it is not related to health issues. It is a serious matter that the VP resigned during the ongoing session. It is a sign of an adjacent (political) storm.

Congress MP Jeram Ramesh claimed that Dhankar’s “unexpected” resignation was also resigned as Vice Presidents.

“The sudden resignation of the Vice President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha is as shocking as it is unimaginable. I was with him till about 5 pm, I was with him, with many other MPs, and at 7:30 pm, I interacted with him on a phone.

Undoubtedly, Jagdeep Dhikar should give preference to his health and above. However, it is also clear that they are more unpredictable for resignation than meeting the eye. Nevertheless, it is not the time of speculation, ”The Congress leader posted on X.

Earlier on Monday, VP Dhankar announced his resignation on health basis.

“To prioritize health care and follow medical advice, I resigned as the vice -president of India, immediately effective according to Article 67 (A) of the Constitution,” read in Dhankar’s resignation letter.

It comes after informing the development sources that a committee is expected to be formed to investigate the allegations against Justice Yashwant Verma, which to remove him after the notices given by MPs in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Justice Verma was convicted by an in-house Inquiry Committee, as the fire was found to be a half-fire-cost of cash in his residence after the fire incident. (AI)
