New Delhi, Oct 19 (IANS) In a shocking incident in central Delhi’s Ram Nagar area, a 22-year-old pregnant woman was brutally stabbed to death by her boyfriend in public view, following which her husband retaliated by killing the assailant, police said on Sunday.
The deceased woman has been identified as Shalini, who was a housewife and mother of two daughters. Her 23-year-old husband Akash, who works as an e-rickshaw driver, is currently fighting for his life in the hospital.
The accused, Ashu alias Shailendra, 34, was a local criminal and allegedly had an affair with Shalini.
According to police, Ashu claimed that Shalini was pregnant with his child and was angry over her decision to return to her husband.
Central Delhi DCP Nidhin Vansal told IANS that the incident occurred late on Saturday night when Akash and Shalini were going to meet Shalini’s mother on Qutub Road.
Vansal said, “Ashu suddenly came and attacked Akash with a knife. However, Akash survived the attack. Then he saw Shalini sitting in the e-rickshaw and stabbed her several times.”
“When Akash tried to save his wife, a violent fight broke out between the two men. Akash was also stabbed, but he managed to overpower Ashu. He attacked Ashu with the knife and killed him,” the officer said.
Shalini’s brother Rohit took both Shalini and Akash to the hospital, while the police took Ashu to the same facility. However, doctors declared both Shalini and Ashu dead. While trying to save his wife, Akash suffered multiple knife injuries.
Based on the statement of Shalini’s mother Sheela, the police have registered a case of murder and attempt to murder. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
Vansal further told that there was tension in the marriage of Shalini and Akash a few years ago, during which Shalini had an affair with Ashu.
The two lived together for some time before she reconciled with Akash and returned to live with him and their two children.
This reconciliation reportedly angered Ashu, who insisted that he was the father of Shalini’s unborn child. Police said that Shalini says that her husband Akash is her father, due to which there could be a fatal attack on Ashu.
