The India Energy Stack (IES) project, to be completed by July 2026, is envisioned as an integrated, secure and interoperable digital backbone for the entire energy value chain. It is being taken forward with REC Limited as the nodal agency and FSR Global as the knowledge partner.
Defined as DPI, India Energy Stack aims to identify and connect stakeholders and assets, and facilitate open data exchange through common specifications and standards, thereby enabling transparent, reliable, inclusive, efficient and affordable energy access.

By establishing common digital protocols, open APIs and federated registries, IES strives to bridge existing silos, enable real-time data exchange, foster innovation, unlock operational efficiencies for discoms, accelerate renewable energy integration, support green energy markets and provide consumer-centric electricity services.
Monday’s meeting focused on a collective review and strategic discussion on the two main foundational elements of the initiative: the draft IES Strategy Document (version 0.1) and the IES Architecture Document (version 0.1). Members said what Aadhaar achieved for identification and UPI for digital payments, IES aims to achieve for the power sector.
The taskforce, comprising domain experts from technology, power sector and regulatory bodies, engaged in an intensive roundtable discussion following the presentations. Its objective was to receive high-level strategic guidance from all members.
