Panchkula, October 23 (IANS) The post-mortem report of Akil Akhtar, son of former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa and former minister Razia Sultana, has revealed a fresh mark of a syringe on his right hand, deepening the mystery of his death.
“The prick mark of the injection is a red-blue wound of 3×2 cm size on the anterior part of the right arm, which is present 7 cm below the elbow joint,” the report said.
While preliminary findings confirmed that Akil was addicted to drugs, the report did not specify the type of drug or whether he was injected. However, forensic experts noted that he did not have the multiple syringe marks on his arm that are typically seen on habitual drug users, with only one fresh mark found on the right arm.
Based on preliminary post-mortem findings, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Haryana Police led by ACP Vikram Nehra has initiated a detailed investigation into the case.
On October 21, an FIR was registered against former DGP Mohammad Mustafa, his wife and former minister Razia Sultana, her daughter and daughter-in-law in the case of Akil’s death.
The case has been registered at Mata Mansa Devi Police Station, Panchkula under sections 103(1) and 61 of the Indian Judicial Code (BNS).
Aqeel, who was found unconscious at his residence in Sector 4, MDC, Panchkula on the night of October 16, was taken to Sector 6 Civil Hospital by his family. On reaching there the doctors declared him dead.
The matter took a serious turn when Shamsuddin Choudhary, a neighbor of Malerkotla, held a press conference and made serious allegations against the family and later submitted a written complaint to the Panchkula Police Commissioner.
He also handed over a video recorded by Aqeel before his death, which has since gone viral. In the video, Akil accused his father, former DGP Mohammad Mustafa, of having illicit relations with his wife and made serious allegations against his mother Razia Sultana and sister, claiming that they were conspiring against him.
Later, another video surfaced in which Akil himself retracted his earlier claims, adding further confusion to the matter.
The family initially said that Akil died of a drug overdose. However, the emergence of a video purportedly recorded on August 27 has cast doubt on the circumstances of his death.
Earlier, police had said that preliminary findings suggested that Akil may have suffered health complications due to taking “some medication (possibly in overdose)”.
Mohammad Mustafa, who retired from Punjab Police in 2021, later joined the Congress party.
His wife Razia Sultana is a senior Congress leader who has been elected MLA from Malerkotla thrice.
