Measles is a highly infectious virus that spreads through the air when an infected person breathes, coughs, sneezes or talks. The virus can stay in the air or on the surfaces for two hours. If they breathe in contaminated air or touch the infected surface, people can become infected, then touch their eyes, nose or mouth.
Symptoms usually begin with fever, cough, flowing nose and red water eyes, followed by a red spot grain that starts on the face and spreads to the body and organs. The virus can lead to pneumonia, brain inflammation and death.
According to Public Health Ontario, three have been confirmed by measles measles and more than 2,300 cases in cases since the onset of an outbreak last October.
