Ontario’s police Watchdog says that he did not get a proper basis to believe that a provincial police officer committed a crime when he shot a 57 -year -old man in a canora, ontt, park last year.
The Special Investigation Unit says that the OPP officials were in the Anisinbe Park on the afternoon of June 25, 2024, when a person drowned himself with gasoline, picked up two big knives and then set fire to a meal concession.
SIU says that the man was standing close to the fire when the authorities asked him to go away so that he could be extinguished.
It says that the man branded the knife and moved towards the firefighters, and a police officer shot the man with a rifle.
The agency says that the person was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery for his chest and stomach wounds, but later died.
SIU says that the use of officer’s bullets formed proper force, and there is no basis for proceeding with criminal allegations in the case.
