On Tuesday (14 October), planned protests went ahead in the city of Udine, while the two teams faced off at the Stadio Friuli, where Italy emerged victorious with a score of 3–0.
About 10,000 protesters met earlier in the day to demand Israel’s exclusion from international soccer competitions. The march remained incident-free until its final stretch, where about 50 people wearing face coverings clashed with officers.
Water cannon and tear gas were used to disperse the protesters, who in turn attacked the officers with smoke plumes.
Despite a ceasefire agreement coming into effect four days before the match, the match has been classified as the highest risk.
