York Regional Police will provide an update Thursday on the ongoing investigation. in a suspected arson That killed two people in Richmond Hill earlier this fall.
Emergency crews were called to a home near Skywood Drive and Rolling Hill Road around 3:15 a.m. on September 1 following a report of a residential fire. Five people were taken to hospital, including four adults and a child.
A few days later, police confirmed that the fire was being treated as suspected arson. An 11-year-old girl died from injuries on 2 September, followed by 24-year-old Helya Bahari-Kashani who died on 3 September. Three other victims, identified by neighbors as two homeowners and their adult daughter, remain in critical condition.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office became involved in the investigation, and York Regional Police immediately classified the case as a homicide, citing evidence that the fire was intentionally set.
To date, police have not released suspect information, and the motive behind the alleged arson remains unclear.
Deputy Chief Ryan Hogan and Superintendent Jim Kilby will address the media at York Regional Police headquarters in Aurora. The briefing is scheduled for 2 pm today.
