Toronto police are trying to identify two suspects after an elderly resident was defrauded out of nearly $4,000 in a phone scam involving a fake credit-investigator and ride-share pickup.
Investigators say the incident It happened on December 29, 2025, when the victim received a call from a man who claimed A credit investigator.
It is alleged that the caller told the victim that their credit card had been compromised and instructed them to disconnect the card to prevent further fraud. Police say the suspect told the victim that a ride-share courier would come to their home to pick up the destroyed card for “verification.”
After a while, a driver came, picked up the pieces of the card and drove away. Shortly afterward, the victim discovered unauthorized transactions totaling approximately $4,000.
Police now believe that two suspects were involved in the scheme.
The suspect is described as a 25 to 35-year-old male, clean shaven with a light mustache and was last seen wearing black Nike Toques, a red #7 Morocco soccer jersey, black pants and a black zip-up sweater.
The second suspect was last seen wearing a green jacket with a hood, but police do not have a physical description.
The vehicle involved is described as a black BMW X5, model year 2019-2023, four-door. Photographs of the suspects and vehicle have been released.
Toronto police continue to warn residents—especially seniors—that fraudsters are increasingly using couriers, ride-share drivers and personal pickups to make fraudulent schemes appear legitimate.
