Royce W. Smith, dean of the school’s College of the Arts, sent emails to students on Wednesday discussing Timms.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that Spencer Timms, one of our Department of Design and College of the Arts alumnus, passed away last Saturday in Long Beach,” the statement said.
Smith described Timms as an “incredibly positive and impressive student, maintaining a 4.0 GPA during his time at CSULB and sharing a passion for design.”
“I remember well meeting Spencer during my tour of the department and I remember clearly that I saw and admired the creative fire in him and his work,” Smith said in the statement. “A student who knew he had something special to offer and who put everything he had into honing his talents and focusing on his ambition.”
Police have asked anyone with information regarding the incident to contact investigators.
