Bhopal, October 21 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav paid tribute to the heroic sacrifice of police personnel on the occasion of Police Memorial Day in Bhopal on Tuesday.
He paid floral tributes to the martyred policemen and acknowledged that their sacrifice ensures peace and security of the society.
The Remembrance Day Parade was held at Lal Parade Ground, Bhopal. Addressing the program, Chief Minister Shri Yadav said that the martyrdom of our soldiers continues to be a source of inspiration and pride.
He recalled the cold morning of 1959, when ten brave police personnel sacrificed their lives protecting the country in the Hot Springs area of Ladakh. This sacrifice started the tradition of celebrating Police Memorial Day in India.
Yadav said, “The unparalleled courage shown by our ten brave soldiers in 1959 was equivalent to the bravery of 10,000. This day represents the spirit of selfless duty and sacrifice. Those who sacrifice their lives for duty are truly immortal.”
Crediting the police force for its vigilance, discipline and dedication, Yadav said Madhya Pradesh is known as the “island of peace”.
He said that police personnel have played a vital role in controlling Naxalism, organized crime, cyber crimes and ensuring the safety of women by pursuing technology-driven innovations and public awareness campaigns.
The Chief Minister said, “It is a matter of pride that because of our police, the morale of criminals has been broken, due to which the state has been able to move towards good governance.”
He praised the police for their exemplary work under the government’s zero-tolerance policy – killing ten Naxalites carrying a bounty of Rs 1.5 crore last year, arresting the Jaipur serial blasts accused and taking decisive action against terrorists.
Yadav appreciated the police’s initiatives such as the Srijan program, ‘Safe Click-Surakshit Jeevan’ campaign and Nasha Se Door Rehna Hai Zaroori drive, noting their widespread social impact.
He also appreciated the Integrated Service Center started in Balaghat district to strengthen the environment of security and development. Lauding the crackdown on illegal arms manufacturing and trafficking, he praised the police for redefining child protection, self-defense and empowerment through the Srijan initiative.
“Police officers are setting an example of community policing in slum areas by conducting workshops on topics like good and bad touching, prevention of sexual violence, child rights, nutrition, health and cyber security,” Yadav said.
Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana, while addressing the programme, said that between October 21, 1959 to August 31, 2025, a total of 1,009 Madhya Pradesh Police personnel have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
