Srinagar, Oct 8 (IANS) Police on Wednesday said they raided properties belonging to the separatist Hurriyat Conference and Jamaat-e-Islami Associates in Hanwada area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
“Police in Handwara have conducted targeted searches at the residences of persons associated with the prosecuting organisations,” a J&K Police statement said.
The searches were carried out at the residence of Ghulam Hasan Khan, son of Habibullah Khan, resident of Maidan Chogol and Abdul Ahad Lone, son of Abdul Aziz Lone, resident of Wahipora.
Officials said Khan was associated with the banned Hurriyat conference, and Lone was linked to the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami organisation.
“The searches were conducted as part of the ongoing investigation aimed at confirming the involvement of these individuals in activities that could pose a threat to public order and regional stability. Hanwada Police is fully committed to maintaining peace, stability and security in the region and will continue to take firm action against elements involved in unlawful activities,” the statement said.
Security forces are carrying out offensive operations against terrorists, their Overground Workers (OGWs) and sympathizers in the Union Territory, destroying the entire ecosystem of terror instead of focusing only on gun-wielding terrorists.
Following Operation Sindoor, joint forces raided hideouts, busted terrorist dens and launched target-specific operations.
The April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack by Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Tabi (LeT), in which 26 civilians were killed, outraged the entire nation. This resulted in target-specific strikes deep inside Pakistan and POK. Nine terrorist infrastructures were destroyed in Mardke near Lahore, in Bahawalpur and in Kotli and Poke in Muzaffarabad. In the resulting escalation, Pakistan attacked civilian facilities, including a temple, a church and a gurudwara in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ponch district. Subsequently, 11 defense positions of Pakistan were destroyed by the Indian Armed Forces.
The Union Home Ministry has given clear orders to the security forces to conduct operations against terrorists in the UT.
