New footage shows dramatic moment georgia police Saved a five-year-old boy suffering from autism Sewer drain.
The rescue operation began when authorities responded to reports of a missing five-year-old boy who had wandered off playground on November 15 at Peachtree Ridge Park in Suwanee, Georgia, according to a statement from Gwinnett County Police Department,
Police searched for the boy for about an hour, after which an officer discovered that a fence near a retention pond had been uprooted. When he went downstairs he saw that there was a sewer drain nearby.
“He followed his instincts, went under the fence, and checked in the sewer drain of a nearby neighborhood. Officer Hughley called to the boy and heard something,” Gwinnett County Police said in a statement.
Another officer came, and he crawled into the sewer to save the five-year-old child.
“Officer Nunez arrived and crawled into the sewer and found the boy a few hundred feet down the drain. While Officer Nunez was crawling through the sewer, Lieutenant Huggins located the nearest drain hole cover and directed them to his location,” the police department said in a statement.
According to police, the five-year-old child was “safely pulled from the sewer without any injuries”.
Footage released by the police department shows an officer asking a parent if the five-year-old had a nickname. “Bubby, ya two,” said one of her parents.
Once the officer located the storm drain, a faint noise could be heard. He called out: “Bubby? Two, is that you?”
“Babbi, two, come here, it’s the police,” he said. “Come here – Hi Bubby, come here, I’m here to help you.”
He continued calling for the boy when another officer crawled inside. Shortly thereafter, the officer announced: “Nunez’s got him!”
The five-year-old was given a snack and a bottle of water as staff checked his injuries. Then he met his parents.
