The National Police Air Service (NPAS), which operates the helicopter, stated that the crew “dynamic risk evaluates” and followed the protocol in the entire operation after conducting internal reviews.
NPAS Chief Operating Officer CH Supa Fiona Gafni said: “Our crew tracked the motorcycle driver for more than an hour, provided a continuous update to the ground authorities. It was a legitimate policing work in support of public safety and prevention of crime.
“Once at a safe place, the crew filed a decision to reduce the height with the intention of landing. As the motorcycle driver continued to shut down, the landing was closed and intensified before climbing on the aircraft. It’s an approved takeoff maneuver.”
The official said: “The fast-paced and unexpected nature of vehicle activities may require a crew to make fast decisions to ensure public safety. We have strong procedures to support these decisions and security is our top priority.”
