Police copy fraud in Brampton under Examination

Peel Regional Police is appealing to the public for information After an alleged fraud incident involving the copy of a police officer in Brampton.

On 9 August, officials said a resident was cheated $ 15,000 after he was a victim of a “sophisticated scam” when he replied Spam text messageConsidering this valid.

Later that day, around 5:45 pm, the victim received a phone call from a person claiming to be an undercover officer with the Toronto Police Service (TPS), alleging that the victim’s account was accused of cheating activity.

Shortly after the call, Peel police said two suspects arrived at the victim’s house near Finagon Circle in Mississaga Road and a black Mitsubishi SUV in the Vanless Drive area. The victim handed over his bank card, which was used to withdraw sufficient amount. Police say the suspects did not present any form of official identity.

The driver is described as a South Asian male, wearing short black hair, a heavy construction and a checker dress shirt between 36 to 38 years of age. The passenger is also described as South Asian men, although no further details were provided.

The suspected vehicle is a new Black Four-Dore Mitsubishi SUV, which is notable for climbing a working computer between the front seats with a police sticker-an detail investigators say that the victim may have been used to help explain that the suspects were valid.

The police are urging the residents to be vigilant and are not sharing personal or financial information with individuals claiming to be law enforcement without proper verification.

The Peel Police wrote in a news release, “Card fraud is a serious concern, and is important for your awareness prevention.”
