Srinagar, Nov 10 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Police has busted an inter-state international terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind terror outfits, recovering 2,900 kg of explosives, two assault rifles, pistols, timers and other material in Haryana’s Faridabad area near New Delhi. Police said here on Monday that seven people have been arrested so far.

According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, the action has been taken after the discovery of Jaish-e-Mohammed posters pasted at various places in Bunpora Nowgam, Srinagar on October 19, threatening the police and security forces.

“The operation led to the arrest of seven key operatives and the recovery of a huge cache of arms, ammunition and about three tonnes of improvised explosive device material during coordinated searches across multiple states. The module was involved in raising funds, arranging logistics and procurement of arms, ammunition and explosive materials besides identifying individuals, radicalising and recruiting them into terrorist ranks,” the police said.

The arrested persons have been identified as Arif Nisar Dar Dar Alis Sahil, resident of Naugam, Srinagar; Yasir-ul-Ashraf, resident of Naugam, Srinagar; Maqsood Ahmed Dar Alias Shahid, resident of Naugam, Srinagar; Molvi Irfan Ahmed, imam of a mosque in Shopian; Zameer Ahmed Ahangar alias Mutalsha, resident of Wakura, Ganderbal; Dr. Muzammil Ahmed Ganai Alias Musaib, resident of Koil, Pulwama; and Dr. Adel, resident of Wanpora, Kulgam.

“More people associated with the network have been identified and efforts are on to trace and arrest them,” police said.

During the investigation, coordinated searches were conducted by Jammu and Kashmir Police in Srinagar, Anantnag, Ganderbal and Shopian and jointly with Haryana Police in Faridabad and Uttar Pradesh Police in Saharanpur.

The operation recovered two pistols, two AK-series rifles and 2,900 kg of explosives and IED-making material, which included chemicals, reagents, inflammable substances, electronic circuits, remote controls, batteries, wires, timers and metal pieces.

The recovered weapons include a Chinese Star pistol with ammunition, a Beretta pistol with ammunition, an AK-56 rifle with ammunition and an AK Krinkov rifle with ammunition.

Police said, “The huge quantity of explosives points to the possibility of a major planned attack, which has now been averted. A detailed financial investigation is underway to track the flow of funds and identify both local and cross-border links.”

All angles of funding, coordination and supply chain are being explored and addressed rapidly.

Police officials said, “This is one of the biggest anti-terrorist operations of the year. The success of the operation reflects the force’s diligent efforts and determination to dismantle covertly operating terror networks. Jammu and Kashmir Police remains steadfast in its mission to eliminate the scourge of terrorism and ensure peace and security in the region.”
