Ottawa – Prime Minister Mark Carney is ready to meet with a delegation of American senators this morning, to discuss the ongoing business struggle between Canada and America in Ottawa
A media advisor to the US Senate Committee on Finance says that four senators plan to “confirm the importance of relations between the United States and Canada” in meetings with Carney and other top government officials.
The delegation includes Oregon’s Democratic Senator Ron Widen, New Hampshire’s Maggi Hassan and Nevada’s Catherine Cortez Masto as well as Alaska Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.
On July 10, in a letter to Carney, US President Donald Trump threatened to impose 35 percent tariffs on Canadian goods by 1 August, setting a new deadline for business talks that were looking to wrap up to date.
Carney told reporters last week that a business deal with the US would probably include some tariffs, and he expected talks with the US. “Intense” before the time limit of 1 August.
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik on Sunday told an American television audience that the Canada would pay tariffs until it opens its market to the United States.
