Raipur, Nov 1 (IANS) On the premises of Satya Sai Sanjeevani Child Heart Hospital in Chhattisgarh’s Nava Raipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stood barefoot on the floor, surrounded by children who once suffered from heart-related diseases. Today he has only light wounds on his chest and unlimited dreams.
A small hockey champion, barely tall enough to reach the Prime Minister’s knees, smiled.
“I had an operation six months ago, sir. I have won five medals. Now I want to become a doctor and treat everyone – children, everyone.”
PM Modi asked: “When you become a doctor, I will grow old – will you treat me?” PM Modi’s eyes became moist. “promise?” he asked. “Promise,” she replied, sealing the agreement with a nod.
Another girl, who had undergone the operation a year earlier, recited a fiery poem: “Every mirror breaks with a stone – look for the mirror that breaks the stone.” PM Modi praised him happily. “wow wow wow!” She said, the room filled with laughter.
A boy born in 2014, now a cricket-mad 11-year-old, confirmed that his check-ups were regular. “No problem, sir. I play every day.”
A seventh-grader, who had never been afraid of anything – not even injections – confessed that she sometimes “falters” in her studies.
“But I tell the truth,” she said proudly. PM Modi said smilingly, “You speak the truth and this will take you far.”
A baby was announced to operate in 2023; “I will become a teacher. I will teach poor children for free—because education uplifts our country.”
Abhik from West Bengal said firmly: “I will join the army. Soldiers protect us – I want to protect them.”
PM Modi’s voice echoed, “Wow, wow, wow.”
Dreams rained down like monsoon rain.
A shy voice whispered: “I never thought I’d meet you.”
Another admitted: “It’s been my dream since I saw you on TV news.”
PM Modi leans in: “Come closer. Tell me – were you scared of the injection?”
“Not at all sir. That’s why my operation went well.”
He talked about the centenary of Sathya Sai Baba, water conservation in Puttaparthi, planting a tree for every mother.
“Our body is our tool for good,” PM Modi urged and sought promises from children: “Do yoga. Sleep well. Stay strong.”
Little hands went up: “We will!”
As he got up to leave, a chorus of voices resounded; “Thank you sir!” PM Modi turned, his eyes shining as if saying, “You are the heartbeat of India.”
