Breakdown: Thousands of people, led by former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai, participated in the belated celebrations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday in Karnataka’s Haveri town on Saturday, where the attendees pledged to create a self-reliant and drug-free India.
Speaking after participating in the “Namo Youth Run” organized on the occasion, Bommai stressed the importance of indigenous products for national development.
The former CM said, “If India has to become the number one country in the world by 2047, we will have to reduce our dependence on foreign goods and use indigenous products.”
He called on the public to take a pledge to build a “glorious India – a self-reliant, drug-free nation” under the leadership of PM Modi.
The BJP MP described the vision of a drug-free India as the guiding direction set by PM Modi.
Recalling his tenure as Karnataka Home Minister, Bommai said, “The fight against drugs had intensified, with a record number of foreign drugs being seized and destroyed during the tenure of our BJP government.”
He appealed to the youth to immediately report any drug sales to the police and warned that the management of such establishments would be held responsible.
Bommai said, “Wherever such medicines are sold, their management will be held responsible. Medicines ruin the lives of the youth. Taking them is like eating poison every day and no one should touch that poison.”
The celebration, which follows the nationwide celebration of the Prime Minister’s birthday on September 17, is part of a series of events being organised, including blood donation camps, health camps and sports events.
Bommai announced plans to organize a “Swadeshi Mela” and a “NaMo MPs’ Sports Competition” in November.
The former chief minister highlighted PM Modi’s focus on youth, citing ‘start-up initiatives’ and sports programs like ‘Khelo India’ and ‘Fit India’.
Bommai said, “Modi’s politics is people’s politics in which people are involved.” He said the Prime Minister’s efforts have included the youth in all his programs to help them achieve success and live with high principles.
Bommai said, “Patriotism and awareness should be instilled among the youth. The Prime Minister wants the youth to lead successful lives guided by the highest principles, which is why he has included the youth in all his programmes.”
He also said that the Prime Minister’s economic policies have lifted 25 crore people out of poverty, calling it a “world record”.
The MP praised the Haveri youth for their active participation and affirmed that the birthday was being celebrated purposefully and reflected the “love and admiration” of the people for the national leader.
Bommai said, “The Prime Minister is an inspiration and one of the most successful leaders of the country. His 75th birthday is being celebrated in a meaningful way with people from all walks of life, especially the youth, taking part. It reflects the respect and admiration of the country for Modi, who has become a guiding inspiration.”
Making an indirect attack on Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Bommai said that there are some people who try to divide the country and when they go abroad, they weaken the democracy of the country.
He said, “Therefore our youth should remain alert. India offers opportunities in education, employment and many other sectors, but these can be realized only when the nation remains safe.”
