Bhopal, Oct 30 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver a virtual address to the nation at the Birsa Munda Mahotsav to be organized on the occasion of ‘Tribal Pride Day’ (Tribal Pride Day) in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh on November 15, highlighting the legacy of iconic tribal freedom fighter Lord Birsa Munda.

The week-long celebration will begin on November 11 and conclude on November 15, honoring the birth anniversary of icon Bhagwan Munda through a series of cultural and educational programs telecast live across the country.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav personally reviewed the preparations during a high-level meeting, emphasizing the state’s commitment to preserving and promoting tribal identity.

‘Birsa Munda Cow Mahotsav’ will be organized at the local level in tribal dominated districts across the state. These programs will include live tableaux depicting the life and struggles of Birsa Munda, interactive exhibitions on tribal history and traditions and large public gatherings.

Renowned tribal art groups will perform traditional dance, music and folk arts showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of the indigenous communities of Madhya Pradesh.

There will be active participation of Members of Parliament, Legislative Assembly and prominent tribal representatives in the function, which will promote unity and dialogue. Special focus will be on cow conservation in line with the theme of the festival, Tribal Cow Day, which underlines the integral role of cattle in tribal livelihood and ecology.

From 2021 onwards, Tribal Pride Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm across India to honor the sacrifices of tribal freedom fighters. Tribal communities played an important role in India’s freedom struggle, with movements led by Santhals, Tamaras, Kols, Bhils, Khasis and Mizos, among others.

On November 15, 2024, Prime Minister Modi visited Jamui, Bihar to celebrate ‘Tribal Pride Day’ and launch the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Lord Birsa Munda.

The Prime Minister also unveiled a commemorative coin and postage stamp in honor of Lord Birsa Munda. He has also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth more than Rs 6,640 crore, aimed at improving infrastructure in rural and remote areas and upliftment of tribal communities.

To ensure that the sacrifices of these unsung heroes are never forgotten, the Government of India declared 15 November as ‘Tribal Pride Day’ during the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ in 2021, which will mark 75 years of India’s independence in 2024.

The day celebrates the glorious history, culture and heritage of tribal communities, with events organized across the country to promote unity, pride and recognize their significant contribution to India’s independence and progress.

“The Jabalpur event at the main venue will include seminars on tribal rights, handicraft stalls and traditional cuisine, which will be attended by thousands of people. Similar programs in districts like Mandla, Dindori and Chhindwara will ensure wider participation,” a senior government official said.

With nationwide broadcast arrangements, the festival aims to educate urban audiences about tribal contributions to India’s freedom struggle and sustainable development.

Officials have directed seamless coordination for logistics, security and digital streaming to make the event accessible to all.

As Madhya Pradesh takes the lead in honoring its tribal heroes, the Birsa Munda Mahotsav promises to be a historic tribute that blends culture, history and national pride.
