New Delhi, Nov 4 (IANS) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday and invited him to dedicate two major projects to the people of Assam – the new terminal of Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport and the Rs 10,601 crore ammonia-urea complex in Namrup.
In a post on Twitter, the Chief Minister said the Prime Minister has “kindly agreed” to inaugurate the projects, with both the projects expected to significantly boost the infrastructure and industrial scenario of Assam.
“The brand new terminal of Guwahati’s LGBI airport is a state-of-the-art project that will transform Guwahati into a major aviation hub. It will enable the city to handle more than 1.3 crore passengers annually,” Sarma said.
The upcoming terminal developed with modern design features and sustainable infrastructure is envisioned to transform Guwahati into the gateway to South East Asia. Once operational, it will not only reduce congestion at the existing facility but will also enhance air connectivity and passenger experience across the entire North East.
“The second is the foundation stone of the Rs 10,601 crore brown field ammonia-urea complex at Namrup. This project will secure vital fertilizer supplies for the entire North East,” the CM wrote on Twitter.
Sarma said both the projects symbolize the Centre’s continued commitment to the development of Assam and the North East under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.
“These initiatives reflect the transformational journey that Assam has undertaken in the last few years with a focus on connectivity, industrial development and self-reliance,” he said.
Officials said the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to Assam is likely to see massive public participation as the projects are seen as game-changers for regional development.
The Chief Minister said, “I am grateful that Adarnia Modi ji has graciously agreed. We are eagerly waiting for his visit.”
