New Delhi, September 21 (IANS) On the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s landmark GST reforms, a strong message was given on cooperative federalism addressed to the nation as he called upon the states to join the Center’s efforts to realize the dream of a self -sufficient India.
In addition to greeting people on the eve of ‘Bakhat Utsav’ or ‘Savings Festival’ and motivating them to like Indian products on foreign people, PM Modi appealed to all state governments to actively support the self -respecting India and indigenous campaigns.
“When the Center and the states move together, the dream of a self -sufficient India will be fulfilled, every state will develop, and India will become a developed nation,” he said.
Demanding support from the state governments, PM Modi urged him to promote manufacturing in his areas with full energy and enthusiasm by creating a favorable environment for investment.
PM Modi’s silence stress on cooperative federalism is important as the GST reforms arising out of the states and the Center in 2017 in 2017 due to friction, delay in paying compensation, loss of fiscal autonomy, loss of fiscal autonomy and uneven decision making powers in GST Council.
On the eve of GST 2.0, PM Modi’s call to the states is also a reflection of new tax complications that have created a more integrated national tax system, but have exposed the complications of India’s federal structure, where it is difficult to balance state autonomy and central monitoring.
Earlier, PM Modi saw the next generation of goods and service tax (GST) reforms as historic and underlined the fact that this step would be a major step towards India.
“From sunrise on 22 September, a new chapter will begin in India’s tax rule,” he said, describing the reforms as the beginning of “GST Savings Festival”, which will directly benefit the poor, middle class, women, small businesses and youth.
He said, “With these reforms, every Indian will increase the savings, and people will be able to buy their favorite items more easily. The festive season, everyone’s happiness will increase manifold,” he said that the new GST structure will promote India’s economic growth.
While reflecting the visit to GST, the Prime Minister recalled the challenges before 2017, when India’s tax system produced, VAT and Octroi, got entangled in the web of levy.
“For decades, our citizens and traders were caught in the labyrinth of dozens of taxes. Going from one city to another means crossing several posts, filling endless forms, and paying arbitrary tolls. The burden eventually fell on the poor consumer,” he said.
