PM Modi redeveloped 524 -year -old Tripura Sundari Temple

AARAartala, 22 September (IANS), fulfilling a long -awaited public expectation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the redevelopment Mata Tripura Sundari Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Pieths of reverence by Hindu in Udaipur, South Tripura.

A senior official of the tourism department said that the 524 -year -old Tripura Sundari Temple has been redeveloped at a cost of over Rs 54 crore, under the scheme of the Union Ministry of Tourism (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Drive) scheme. The central government has provided Rs 34.43 crore, while the Tripura government has contributed Rs 17.61 crore to the project.

The Prime Minister reached Agartla on Monday afternoon after laying the foundation stone of 13 development projects worth more than Rs 5,127 crore in Arunachal Pradesh capital Itanagar. From Aarartala, he went to Gomti District Headquarters, Udaipur by helicopter and inaugurated the redevelopment Mata Tripura Sundari Temple to 65 km south of Augustla.

PM Modi participated in a roadshow, 12 kilometers in the temple from Palatana Helipad, where thousands of men, women and children prepared both sides of the road to warmly to greet. After inaugurating the redevelopment temple and the beautified environment, he offered worship at the Kali temple. The Prime Minister also visited an exhibition showing the history, traditions and culture of the temple and the royal dynasty.

PM Modi’s visit to Monday is the 11th visit to the state and is the second visit to the Tripura Sundari Temple since becoming Prime Minister in 2014. He visited worship at the first Mata Tripura Sundari Temple on 7 April 2019 and his last visit to Tripura was on 17 April 2024 in connection with the lock meeting.

Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Manik Saha, BJP state president and Rajya Sabha member Rajab Bhattacharjee and other leaders and senior officials were with the Prime Minister during their temple visit.

Taking into his official X account, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said: “The supernatural scene of the night, about the new infrastructure of the mother’s residence built under the Prasad project, shows the complex fascinating with the grace of the mother, the complicated fascinating, shows the deep reverence and gratitude of the present government towards the mother.”

The Chief Minister also shared a video of the redevelopment Tripura Sundari Temple and a beautified environment. The Tripura Sundari Temple in Gomti district of southern Tripura is a prestigious temple and is a symbol of the rich cultural heritage of the state.

The official said that the inauguration of the Prime Minister of the redevelopment temple is a will of its importance.

The temple built by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, the then King of the state in 1501, is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths in the country and the Kali Temple in Kalphi in Kolkata and the third such pilgrimage center in eastern India after the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati. At the end of the 517 -year rule by hundreds of kings on October 15, 1949, Prince Rajkumar Rajkumar of Tripura, Kanchan Prabha Devi, then came under control after a merger agreement between Regent Maharani and Governor General.

The temple has a square-shaped sanctum sanctorum designed in a specific Bengali one-ritual style model, located on a small hill, similar to the hump of a turtle (Kurma), which gives it the name of Kurma Piha.

The sanctum sanctorum of the temple has two identical but different black stone sculptures of the goddess. The large and more prominent statue of a height of 5 feet is that of Goddess Tripura Sundari, and the younger one, adorable, called Choto-ma (literally, younger mother), is 2 feet tall and is an idol of Goddess Gandi. It is said that the small idol was taken to the battlefield by the kings of Tripura as well as for hunting campaigns.

Recently, Mazabari Peda (Sweets), which has been introduced as offerings in the temple, was given a prestigious geographical signal (GI) tag. Every year, lakhs of devotees from across the country gather here for the Diwali festival.

The two-day ‘Diwali Mela’ (Fair) is an official annual program that attracts thousands of people across the country, which exceeds just one fair-it is a depiction of multi-cultural clothes of Tripura. It is anticipated to bring millions of additional visitors per year, resulting in promotes the district economy.

Every year, more than 12-15 lakh people visit the temple and offer their worship from the entire country and neighboring Bangladesh. Presently, the daily arrival of pilgrims/tourists in Matabari is around 3000-3500. It is expected that after the completion of the ambitious project and development of the temple, the daily arrival can double for about 5000–7000 individuals. Officials said the project would provide direct and indirect employment to local communities, hotels, guides, taxi owners and other stakeholders.
